Installation of curbside mailboxes must meet specific construction standards. Generally, curbside mailboxes must be 6-8 inches back from the curb and 41-45 inches from the road surface. Before installing, moving, or replacing your mailbox you need to contact your local Postmaster or mailperson from your local Post Office. Wall-mounted mailboxes used for multi-residential or commercial purposes must meet the USPS guidelines (USPS-STD-4C) which require Standard Parcel Lockers to be 15 inches high by 12 inches wide by 15 inches deep and Large Parcel Locker to be 18 inches high by 12 inches wide x 15 inches deep.

Can I get private mail delivery in Virginia?

Yes, private mail delivery services such as UPS, FedEx, and Amazon all deliver in Virginia. Private delivery companies are not allowed to deliver directly to your USPS mailbox because it is technically owned by USPS and no postage has been paid.
