Mailboxes are our business here at U.S. Mail Supply. Our mailboxes are not the everyday type that you find at your local hardware store. We specialize in mailboxes that are mainly used in commercial applications. Many times these collection boxes are referred to as cluster box units, pedestal, horizontal, or vertical mailboxes. We also handle a high end residential receptacle. In the information below we will attempt to give you brief description of the different types of receptacle we carry.

Mailboxes that are used most often in small multi-tenant buildings are vertical collection boxes. Vertical mailboxes are front loading and are built for indoor applications. Even though these units are front loading, they do not lose a mail compartment like the horizontal receptacles. The top of the middle door on vertical mailboxes is prepared for the postal lock and can be used for a tenant door as well. These units are made out extruded aluminum and cannot be used outdoors, unlike the cluster box units or other pedestal receptacles. These units are occasionally referred to as apartment mailboxes because they are use in small complexes throughout the country. These receptacles are available in groupings of three doors to seven doors with small number of optional features available. Please call our customer service center for more help.

Mailboxes that are used indoors in medium to large complexes are called horizontal collection boxes. Mailboxes of this type are the most versatile units in the marketplace. Horizontal boxes have the ability to have parcel lockers and outgoing collection receptacles fabricated within each frame. Vertical units cannot have parcel lockers built in, but they can have slots cut into the mail compartments for outgoing collection. Cluster box units have parcel lockers and an outgoing mail compartment standard in the receptacles. Therefore, it is our opinion that horizontal mailboxes are a great solution for when the customer has medium to large building, with numerous tenants, and an indoor application. Occasionally these units are used for outdoor application in kiosks as well. An important consideration when using these units outside is your climate and protective shelter for the receptacles.

Mailboxes that are used outdoors, on a pedestal, are postal approved are cluster box units. Mailboxes of that are described as cluster box units are the most expensive receptacles in the industry. Cluster box units have eight, twelve, thirteen, or sixteen tenant doors per unit. These pedestal mailboxes also contain one or two parcel lockers depending on the model. These units also have an outgoing mail compartment built standard into every unit. Unlike horizontal and vertical mailboxes, these pedestal mailboxes per postal regulations, cannot be modified in any way, with the exception of door identification.
