Horizontal Mailboxes for secure indoor applications

Horizontal mailboxes are apartment mailboxes, or indoor mailboxes that come in several configurations, such as the older style 4B+ or newer style 4C horizontal mailboxes that were introduced in October, 2006. Our horizontal mailboxes are USPS approved, and can be used for USPS delivery or private applications (these mailboxes can have private master door locks installed, instead of the usual preparation for the USPS "Arrow" lock). Private use horizontals are typically used for commercial applications, such employee pay checks, payment drop or inter-office mail. Optional locking devices such combination locks, thumb latches and a variety of others are available.

Horizontal mailboxes are the generic term used for mail collection boxes often used in condominium and apartment building projects. These receptacles are described in our marketplace in a variety ways, such as horizontals, gang mailboxes, indoor mailboxes, locking or commercial mailboxes, and the newest USPS approved indoor mail - 4C horizontal mailboxes. Each of our horizontal styles has their advantages and disadvantages depending on their commercial use.

Mailboxes for large multi-family complexes most often use front loading horizontal mailboxes. Customers who require horizontals quite often require a unit that can be altered to suit their specific needs. This is the advantage 4B+ horizontals have over older style vertical mailboxes or the newer style 4C horizontals. These types of applications often require parcel lockers, outgoing mail compartments or larger mailboxes. Our horizontals can be manufactured in an array of finishes to help meet the decor standards of the end user. Aluminum finish is the most economically priced finish.

It is recommended that your local postal officials be provided the opportunity to review your mailbox configuration prior to ordering, to make sure that it meets local mail delivery requirements. The older style 4B+ horizontals, as well as vertical mailboxes will continue to be around even after the new USPS STD-4C postal regulations go into effect.

4C horizontal mailboxes are the newest standard for apartment mailboxes. Our new Foursite 4C horizontal mailboxes are a new style of indoor mailbox manufactured strictly to new USPS STD-4C specifications. All mailbox projects for new construction and major renovations where the building permit was applied for after October 5, 2005 require U.S. Postal Service STD-4C compliant mailbox systems.

The new USPS 4C Standard includes many new specifications, such as a compartment minimum size requirement of 12" wide x 15" deep x 3" high; elimination of the vertical mailbox design (5" wide x 6" deep x 15" high); introduces parcel locker requirements based on 1:10 parcel locker to tenant ratio; strengthens security requirements for the entire receptacle; standardizes and improves tenant compartment lock design; adds testing requirements to verify acceptability for either indoor or outdoor use; 4C horizontal mailboxes meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

The lower security, older style of horizontal mailboxes and vertical mailboxes will be phased out over the next few years, so it is important that you discuss this with your local postal officials to ensure that you are ordering a mailbox configuration that will work for both you and the USPS.

Horizontal mailboxes can have the tenant doors marked a number of distinct ways - engraved compartment doors, window slot or cardholder door id, engraved tabs with widow slots, and black filled engraving for the upscale properties. 4C horizontal mailboxes are available in number decals or engraved door ID only. We typically recommend that horizontal mailboxes purchased by our customers have engraved doors rather than a name, because names can change, and unit numbers usually do not. Many commercial property owners like the cardholder feature, because they then can control in the field how the compartment is marked. Engraved tabs can also be used in the window slot option to provide a touch of quality, yet providing more flexibility in your cluster mail receptacle. Black filled engraving is also available at nominal extra cost, which can enhance collection boxes for your building.

4B+ horizontal mailboxes can be altered to meet an array of requirements for the end user. Horizontal mailboxes can be changed to make bigger mail compartments, handle outgoing mail collection, and specialty doors for parcel lockers. This is what makes these post office boxes perfect for a spectrum of commercial applications. It is vital to comprehend that this type of cluster mail receptacle must be recessed into the wall and needs approximately seventeen inches in wall depth. These units can be ordered in both postal and private access, and can also be configured to be loaded from the front or the rear of the receptacle.

Our staff is here to assist you in configuring your post office boxes by listening to your commercial application needs. Our staff member is likely going to be inquiring about how many tenants you are looking to service, wall space available, your decor to help in picking the best finish, and a host of other options to help us design cluster mail receptacle that is most suitable for you. This is what makes our company unique and enjoyable to work with.
