| All of our indoor horizontal mailboxes must be recessed mounted, and require 17” of wall depth. The 1400 Series front and 1500 Series rear-loading horizontals are compliant with USPS specification 4B+, which states that 4B+ horizontals are USPS Approved when replacing the same style of mailbox without altering the existing hole in the wall more than 2". Occasionally local USPS officials will approve 4B+ horizontal mailboxes when wall space is an issue or for other circumstantial reasons. If in doubt, check with your local Postmaster. Our 1450/1550 and 1600/1700 Series horizontal mailboxes are for private use applications only, and are popular with large institutions like colleges, hospitals and government buildings. Private use horizontal mailboxes are typically used for in-house mail or for U.S. Mail delivered by internal personnel rather than a USPS mail carrier. The 1450/1550 Series features a standard mailbox size of 3" high x 6" wide, and the 1600/1700 Series features a mailbox size of 5" high x 4" wide.
